Get a Six Pack the Right Way: Lose the Fat, Keep the Muscle
If you are asking how to get a six pack, I will not hand you a hundred-crunch challenge. Visible abs depend largely on how much body fat covers the muscle, along with your individual fat distribution and abdominal development. The work is a combination of nutrition, resistance training, patience, and staying consistent when progress slows.
You cannot choose to burn fat only from your stomach. I coach adults 18 and older online, and I would rather help you get stronger and leaner in a way you can live with than push you toward a photo-ready look that costs you your energy. Six pack abs are not a requirement for being healthy or fit.

Muscle grows when you recover. Rest days, deloads and volume are planned, never left to chance.
Note: VOLUME MANAGED
- Step 03
Nutrition
Calories and macros set for your goal, then adjusted every week from your real data.
Note: MACROS / DAILY
- Step 04
Hydration
Water and electrolytes matched to your training so you perform and recover at your best.
Note: TARGET / DAILY
- Step 05
Cardio
Steps and cardio dosed to support fat loss and heart health without eating into your gains.
Note: STEPS + ZONE 2
- Step 06
Lifestyle
Sleep, stress and schedule built into the plan. Habits you can keep for life, no crash diets.
Note: SUSTAINABLE
Why crunches alone do not reveal abs
Ab exercises can strengthen your midsection. They do not determine where your body loses fat. The visible definition many people mean by 'get abs' generally appears at a lower level of body fat, and that level is different for each person. Genetics, muscle development, lighting, and how you hold your body all affect what you see in photos.
I may include direct abdominal training, but the backbone of the program is full-body resistance training and an eating strategy you can repeat. If your weight changes without progress in strength, energy, or adherence, we need to look closer at how the plan is working. A stronger core is useful even when it does not look like a magazine cover.
Be skeptical of claims that one move melts belly fat. Read my guide to getting a six pack for a fuller breakdown of the myths and what to track instead.
Lose body fat without throwing away muscle
To lower body fat, we set a manageable calorie deficit based on your starting point and response. I focus on macro targets and keep protein a priority to support muscle while dieting. Carbs are useful fuel for challenging workouts, so I do not ban them. A custom meal plan can include foods you actually like and still match your target.
Extreme restrictions can make the first week look impressive, then make everything harder. I do not use crash diets, starvation plans, or punishments for eating socially. We can adjust portion sizes and food choices while preserving regular meals and training performance. Your plan needs to work on an ordinary Wednesday, not just during a perfect week.
I generally encourage a gallon of water daily if appropriate for your health. More water is not a substitute for a calorie plan or medical advice, and anyone with a fluid restriction should follow their clinician's instructions. Hydration, regular meals, and enough sleep make consistency easier, but none is a shortcut to a specific body fat percentage.
Train hard, then recover on purpose
Resistance training helps you keep building or maintaining muscle as you lean out. We use progressive overload, monitor your reps and loads, and adjust the work when a calorie deficit makes recovery harder. I want you to train with intent, not chase soreness for its own sake. Rest days and sleep are part of the program, not a reward for finishing it.
For cardio, light incline walking three to five times a week can add movement without demanding a full extra workout. It is a tool, not a payment for eating. If your schedule or recovery changes, we can modify the frequency. The aim is a realistic routine you can sustain over months, not the most exhausting plan you can survive for two weeks.
Ab-specific exercises still have a place. I may program controlled movements that let you progress over time, but they sit beside squats, presses, pulls, and other work for your whole body. A lean physique looks and feels different when you have muscle underneath the fat you lose.
What progress can look like before a six pack
The first useful signs might be better workout consistency, a stronger lift, or an easier time following meals. Later you may notice waist measurements or photos changing. Scale weight can fluctuate with food volume, salt, stress, and normal day-to-day variation. We review trends instead of reacting to a single morning.
Lower body fat does not always mean better energy, sleep, mood, or confidence if you push too far. I check those alongside training performance, and we can decide that maintaining is smarter than cutting further. Not everyone needs or wants the leanness required for sharply visible abs. Your health, preferences, and life outside the gym count.
How Dante Johnson coaching works for a leaner physique
We start with your history, goal, training environment, food preferences, and a one-on-one onboarding conversation. I write your training and meal plan, then you log the work and send updates. We meet each week to review what happened and adjust the calorie target, exercises, or workload if the evidence calls for it. You can text me directly in between.
Foundation is $175 per month and includes a custom training program, one meal plan, weekly calls, and direct text access. Performance at $225 adds a second meal plan. Elite at $275 adds three meal plans, four-week program updates, two calls each week, form-check videos, and priority text support. The available commitments are 3, 6, and 12 months, with an upfront discount if you pay in full.
Results are individual and I will not promise a six pack by a particular date. If your goal is to lower body fat while keeping your strength and a workable social life, read about fat loss coaching or book a free call. We can decide together whether this is the right time for a fat loss phase.
